About Us
Our agency is the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC). We do business as Cumberland County Economic Development (CCED) and as the Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau (CVVB). CAEDC serves as both the authorized economic development agency under the CCED name and the authorized tourism promotion agency under the CVVB name, for Cumberland County, PA.
Background:
Our present operations began in 2001 when the Cumberland County Commissioners formally established CCED as an independent operating unit of the Redevelopment Authority of Cumberland County. Previously, Cumberland County had been primarily served by outside economic development and tourism agencies not based in the community. In January of 2004, the new Cumberland County Board of Commissioners, consisting entirely of leaders with business leadership backgrounds, chose to relocate the economic development operation from its position as part of the Redevelopment Authority, directly into Cumberland County government. As such, we became the Cumberland County Office of Economic Development. This was the first step in an anticipated restructuring effort whose ultimate objective was to enhance the flexibility and business community link between the agency and the County. In July of that year, the Commissioners formally established CAEDC, and by spring 2005 the final step was completed when the new corporation became the operating framework for the agency itself functioning as a 501(c)3 non-for-profit corporation. In early 2010, CAEDC became a certified Area Loan Organization (ALO) and became authorized by the Department of Community and Economic Development to process State backed economic development loans throughout Cumberland County, PA.
Today, Cumberland County is served by a single, independent, county-chartered economic development corporation with responsibility for the execution of an integrated economic development and tourism marketing strategy on behalf of the citizens and businesses of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. |
